As of this post, I'm back to a full-time track & field training schedule. So I'm squeezing in the time for this blog post between all that, taking care of the pup, working on what feels like a million projects, and still having time for bonding with family.
With that said, there's no better time to introduce this topic and do a quick Splendid Spoon review. Looking into how to start eating healthy when you're busy? You might find this worthwhile!
Simplifying healthy living and making it fun is kinda my jam, and there are so many solutions for nutritious eating on busy schedules these days.
So let's take a look at:
What it is and how Splendid Spoon works
Review some Splendid Spoon meals
Talk about Splendid Spoon alternatives
To summarize this convenient and nutritious service, Splendid Spoon is a food delivery service comprised of ready-to-eat plant-based soups, bowls, and smoothies.
I recently gave this product a try because let's face it, we don't always have time to cook.
Typically, "no time to cook" turns into ordering to-go from wherever is the quickest and easiest. And no surprise here, this isn't always the healthiest option. Nutrition is important all the time and you need to fuel the body with proper nutrients in order to perform well.
So convenient healthy options are pretty important.
Splendid Spoon works similarly to other subscription food services. You choose a plan online, decide whether you want a custom menu or a premade one, then sit back and wait for your scheduled delivery.
That's the summary. But I'm going to get into more details with a Splendid Spoon review to help you decide if it's right for you. The pros, the cons, and everything you need to know, including a Splendid Spoon coupon so you can give it a try.
Reasons To Try Splendid Spoon
There are many pros to the Splendid Spoon subscription service.
The process is very convenient, with smoothies arriving ready to drink and the rest only needing a few minutes in the microwave. Many healthy meal delivery services require you to make the meals as well, which is still helpful in its own way. But with Splendid Spoon you don't have to!
Splendid Spoon has a variety of bowls (grains, noodles, soups), smoothies, and wellness shots. You want a busy lifestyle healthy eating solution. You don't want to sacrifice variety and flavor. Splendid Spoon's online platform makes it easy to pick what you want, when you want it, without the redundancy or time commitment of meal prep.
The nutritional value is high- especially if you have trouble getting enough vegetables and fruits into your diet. Everything is plant-based, non-GMO, soy-free, dairy-free, low-sodium, has no added sugars, and has some protein. The protein mainly comes from beans and nuts.
I absolutely love the number of superfoods you get with Splendid Spoon. Turmeric, pepitas, tarragon, mint, goji berries, baobab powder, to name literally just a few. While these natural ingredients help us feel our best, we might not normally consume them. I love how I don't have to hunt them down...they're just in these meals already.
Splendid Spoon eliminates the gap by throwing extra superfoods right into their meals.
Oh, and wellness shots straight to your door? Can't complain about that.
If I had to do a quick Splendid Spoon wellness shot review, I would say that might be my favorite part. It just felt like a nice touch and I enjoyed both the Detox and the Wellness Shots.
What Is The Splendid Spoon Reset?
The Splendid Spoon reset is one of their big selling points.
The reset is a day off from typical meals that is built right into your plan (if you choose.) You can have a full day of souping!
I think that this is a cool feature for sure, but again not in my wheelhouse. If "resetting" is something that fits healthily into your meal plan, it's great that SS has it. For me, it's not necessarily a con, but a moot point.
So let's look at the other side of things.
Splendid Spoon Review: Challenges
An honest Splendid Spoon review wouldn't be complete without my thoughts on the potential downsides of the program.
I certainly think that Splendid Spoon is great for those following a plant-based diet. All SS meals are:
You literally can't pick an option that's not. So perfect for vegetarians and vegans.
I, on the other hand, rely on meat to get a lot of my protein, so Splendid Spoon probably wouldn't be a service I'd want continuously.
The good news there is that you can control when you want your deliveries, and choose which meals come.
You can pick weekly, every other week, or monthly so even if you're not plant-based SS is a great way to get more plants. You pick which meals you want for each delivery.
This brings me to my next "con." I just felt a little restricted by a "breakfast, lunch, dinner" plan. Some Splendid Spoon alternatives, like Daily Harvest, allow you to pick with more of an "item by item" situation.
Definitely, something to consider depending on your lifestyle.
Appearing at first to be mainly focused on weight loss, it's nice to see that there are different plans available on the website to meet other dietary needs.
Weight loss is personally not on my mind; healthy eating is.
You have to know what nutrition you need based on your lifestyle before diving into this meal plan. I'm not a nutritionist by any means, but I worry that some people would dive into a Splendid Spoon plan without knowing how many calories they actually need and such.
While the variety is pretty amazing, it's hard to know which meals you'll love. This means there might be some trial and error in the process.
The coconut curry rice bowl with kale, cashews, and chickpeas was delicious, while I don't know if I would have the vegetable bolognese noodles again.
All in all, the flavor is a bit of a pleasant surprise, considering that the meals are fully pre-made and shipped. You just have to realize this won't always be the same as a homecooked meal.
There are many, many times when the convenience of Splendid Spoon will outweigh that consideration.
The Value of Splendid Spoon
Honestly, guys, I was prepared to complain about the price.
Meal subscription services always seem like a financial stretch to me, especially when I have always successfully made my own food.
But truth be told, $65 for a week of pre-made, no effort, healthy breakfasts OR lunches delivered to your door is a pretty good deal. Bump up to 95$ for breakfast AND lunch and there's still a high chance that you'll lower your grocery bill.
The biggest plan is $185 (non-sale price) each week.
If you're only eating the food in this plan, that could potentially lower your bill. I'm a bit of a master at minimizing my grocery bill (because I've had to be) and can't confidently say that this is usually cheaper than shopping yourself.
However, take into account that you have essentially no meal prep and no time at the store.
The size of each meal is actually worth the price too. Especially when you look at Splendid Spoon alternatives.
Even the smoothies are large and filling, which is good because they're advertising them as "breakfast." If you're a snacker like me though, it could be an issue financially.
Splendid Spoon vs Daily Harvest
The big question: Splendid Spoon vs Daily Harvest. These are two popular healthy meal delivery service options, so the difference between the two is a major question people ask.
So let's talk a little about them and compare the value of both of these services.
The biggest difference is that Daily Harvest has a few more options than Splendid Spoon, meaning there's more variety.
I also know that Daily Harvest lets you pick plans based on the number of items. With several different types of bowls, smoothies, flatbreads, and more...there could be a better customization situation happening there.
To get 14 of these items a week you're looking at roughly $75-115. That's only 2 items a day, but cheaper than a full meal plan from SS.
As far as taste goes, I find both Daily Harvest and Splendid Spoon to be very tasty. Both services prioritize nutritional benefits through superfoods and the blending of multiple ingredients.
The difference between Splendid Spoon smoothies and Daily Harvest smoothies is that the Splendid Spoon smoothies come already made. Literally, defrost and drink. Daily Harvest smoothies on the other hand must be poured into a blender and blended up.
It's still technically "pre-made" and you can pour the blended smoothie right back into the cup it comes in, which has a spot for a straw.
Splendid Spoon also has wellness shots, which you can't find at Daily Harvest. They are so good and such a treat to have in your shipment!
Try It Yourself With a Splendid Spoon Coupon
I know that was a lot of information so let's wrap up this review of Splendid Spoon meals.
In conclusion, *drum roll please:*
I recommend giving a box of Splendid Spoon a try! Especially if you're just looking into how to start eating healthy.
I would just definitely look through all of the meal options and keep in mind that you might have some trial and error picking the ones that you love.
Also, make sure you consider how the service fits into your nutritional needs. I love the benefits inside of each meal, but just read through it a bit.
The biggest perk outside of the nutritional benefits?
I saved so much time with Splendid Spoon! Knowing that this healthy option exists makes me feel confident and ready to take on the next busy week I have lined up.
