Make Your Own Natural Ingredient Protein Granola Bars
Make your own protein granola bars in just a few simple steps and using what you already have on hand!
The best part about this recipe is that you can mix in almost anything you're in the mood for or already have in your pantry. Nuts, dried fruits, different nut butters, candy pieces, etc! Also, they are great for meal prep because you can store them for a week or so in the fridge. With protein powder in the mix, they make for a great pre or post workout snack.
I used Four Sigmatic protein powder because its made with mushrooms that are rich in nutrients! The powder doesn't taste like mushrooms at all and has a nice sweet, slightly coconutty taste. The powder has "18 grams of a blend of 5 pure organic vegan proteins with a balanced amino acid profile, and a high dose of 7 amazing mushrooms and adaptogens."
What You Need (approx.)
- 1.5 cups of rolled oats
-1/4 tsp of salt
-cinnamon to taste
-.5 - 1 cup of peanut butter or other butter
-1/2 cup pure maple syrup, honey or agave
-2/3 cup of Four Sigmatic Sweet Vanilla protein powder
-get creative with your favorite additions! In this recipe I used dried craisins, pumpkin seeds, and chocolate chips! Add a handful of whatever you choose*
*NOTE: the more extra mix-ins you use, the more sticking agent you will probably need. It will be harder for the bars to stick together and remain in a bar shape...but will still be a yummy granola snack!
What to Do
Mix all of the dry ingredients in a large bowl
Add in nut butter and maple syrup and mix well
Spoon the mixture onto a tray with wax/parchment paper and flatten
Cover with another layer of wax/parchment paper
Freeze for several hours
Cut into bars and store in airtight container in fridge for the week!
If some of the bars don't hold well (this happens to me sometimes) use as a granola snack on yogurt or by itself!
